Lisieux Martin Papa Therese

EDITORS COMMENTS
This beautiful and poignant photograph captures the tender moment between Therese Martin, the beloved Catholic saint from Lisieux, France, and her loving father, Louis Martin. Taken in the late 19th century, the image showcases the deep bond between the young Therese, who would later become known as the "Little Flower of Jesus," and her father, who was a devoted and loving parent. Born in Alençon, Normandy, in 1873, Therese was the youngest of nine children in the Martin family. Her father, Louis, was a watchmaker, and her mother, Zélie, was a seamstress. Louis was known for his strong faith and deep devotion to his family, and he instilled these values in his children from a young age. In this photograph, Therese, dressed in a simple white blouse and black skirt, sits on her father's lap, her hand resting on his chest as she gazes up at him with a look of adoration. Louis, with a kind and gentle expression, holds her hand in his own, his eyes focused on his daughter. The warm lighting and soft focus of the photograph add to the sense of intimacy and love between the two. Therese's spiritual journey began at a young age, and she was known for her deep faith, humility, and love for God. She entered the Carmelite convent in Lisieux at the age of 15 and became a nun, taking the name Sister Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face. She spent the rest of her short life in the convent, where she wrote her famous autobiography, "Story of a Soul," which detailed her spiritual experiences and her deep love for God. Louis Martin passed away when Therese was just 14 years old, but his influence on her life remained strong. She often spoke of her deep love and devotion to her father, and her spirituality was shaped in part by his example of faith and love. This photograph serves as a reminder of the profound impact that a loving father can have on his child's life, and the enduring bond between Therese and her beloved papa.
