In 1897, the building was taken over by the Metropolitan Asylums Board and became known as St. Annes Home. In 1919, it was converted into a TB Sanatorium. Date: circa 1900

Before its transformation into St. Anne's Home, the Pier Hotel had been a popular lodging place for weary travellers and tourists visiting the picturesque seaside town of Herne Bay.
