EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the iconic North American P-51D Mustang, specifically the aircraft with the registration number N9149R. Originally delivered to the United States Army Air Force as 44-74441 in November 1950, this Mustang later joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as 9593 in October 15, 1959. The Mustang's history is rich and varied, with several notable owners and registrations. From May 20, 1959 to 1962, the Mustang was based at Trans Florida Aviation in Sarasota, Florida. During this time, it was registered as N9149R. The next owner, J.W. Fornof-Fornof Motor Co. of Houma, Louisiana, acquired the Mustang in August 4, 1962 and held it until 1972. Subsequently, the aircraft was sold to G.R. Dunagan-Crawford & Co of Atlanta, Georgia. Unfortunately, the Mustang's tenure with Dunagan-Crawford ended tragically on December 20, 1972, when it crashed and was destroyed by fire in Flowery Branch, Georgia. This photograph, taken circa 1968, captures the Mustang in its prime, with its sleek lines and powerful presence. The North American P-51D Mustang remains an enduring symbol of aviation history and a favorite among aviation enthusiasts.
