This photograph showcases the iconic North American P-51D Mustang N335J, affectionately known as "Miss Bardahl," with its vibrant yellow checkerboard paint scheme. The Mustang, manufactured as P-51D-30 NA 44-74506 for the United States Army Air Force (USAAF) in December 1950, was later delivered to the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) as 9231. In December 1958, it was struck off charge and went through several ownership changes. In 1960, James Defuria-Fred Ritts of Intercontinental Airways, Conastota, NY, registered the Mustang as CF-MWM. However, it was later sold to Aero Enterprises in Elkhart, IN, with the registration N6317T reserved but not taken up. In March 1963, Ed Weiner of Los Angeles, CA, registered the Mustang as N335J and raced it with the number 49 under the name "Miss Bardahl" in the Hi Time II event. In 1973, Violet M. Bonzer of Los Angeles, CA, loaned the aircraft to the EAA Museum in Hales Corner, WI. Max Hoffman of Fort Collins, CO, owned the Mustang in 1979, followed by Wolcott Air Services in Wolcott, CT, in 1980. In 1982, Gary Norton of Norton Aero in Athol, ID, registered the aircraft as 474832-GA-N, Juliette. The Mustang was later sold to Sierra Aviation in Boardman, OH, in 1992, and then to Rene Bouverat of Ste. Air B Aviation in Chambrey, France, in 1993, where it was registered as F-AZJJ. The Mustang was reportedly flying at Paso Robles, CA, in June 2002, and later belonged to SLT Flight Corp. in Dover, DE, from 2005 to 2007 as N151FT, Lady B.
