This vintage photograph captures the Miles M.14A Hawk Trainer 3, registration G-AKRV, at White Waltham Airfield in England, prior to its export to Tanganyika in 1950. The aircraft, previously known as Magister T9896 in the Royal Air Force, was earmarked for service in the newly independent African country. However, the registration VP-KNW, which was allotted to the plane upon export, was never applied to the aircraft. Tragically, the Miles M.14A Hawk Crashed at Ukirugura in Tanganyika on March 22, 1956, before it could be put into use. The image showcases the sleek design and distinctive features of the Miles M.14A Hawk Trainer, which was widely used by various military and civilian aviation organizations during the mid-20th century. With its open cockpit and dual controls, it provided excellent training opportunities for aspiring pilots.
