EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the Hawker Hunter T.8B XF967, a iconic aircraft of the Royal Air Force (RAF) with an illustrious history. First flown on the 9th of April 1956, this Hawker Hunter, with manufacturing serial number 41H/695343 and RAF serial number HABL-003122, took to the skies for the first time. Delivered to the RAF on the 15th of May 1956, the Hawker Hunter T.8B XF967 served in the Royal Air Force until it was relegated to training duties as 9186M. After its tenure with the RAF came to an end, the aircraft was re-registered as G-BZRI and was eventually disposed of. However, its story did not end there. In the late 1960s or early 1970s, the Hawker Hunter T.8B XF967 found a new home in South Africa, where it was registered as ZU-CTN and became a part of the fleet of renowned aviator Mike Beachy-Head at Cape Town. This photograph, part of The Peter Butt Aviation Collection from Mary Evans Prints Online, captures the timeless beauty and grace of this historic aircraft as it soared through the skies over South Africa. The Hawker Hunter T.8B XF967 is a testament to the enduring legacy of aviation and the thrill of flight. Its story serves as a reminder of the rich history of military and civilian aviation, and the continued fascination with the machines that have taken us to new heights.
