EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the de Havilland DH.60 Moth, registration number G-ABYA (msn 1906), at the Fifty Years of Flying Exhibition held at RAF Hendon in 1951. The Moth, a classic biplane design produced by the de Havilland Aircraft Company, was first registered on 12 July 1932. The aircraft's sleek lines and elegant design were a testament to de Havilland's innovative engineering and manufacturing capabilities. At the time of this photograph, G-ABYA was in pristine condition, having likely undergone extensive restoration or maintenance. Its timeless beauty and grace stood out among the various aircraft on display at the exhibition, drawing the admiration of aviation enthusiasts and spectators alike. Unfortunately, the history of G-ABYA was not without incident. On 21 May 1972, the aircraft crashed near Biggin Hill, marking the end of its flying days. Despite this setback, the Moth continued to be a beloved and iconic part of aviation history, representing the golden age of flight and the pioneering spirit of aviation pioneers. The de Havilland DH.60 Moth remains a cherished symbol of aviation's past, and this photograph serves as a reminder of its enduring legacy. With its distinctive shape and rich history, G-ABYA is a testament to the ingenuity and passion that drove the early days of aviation, and continues to inspire new generations of aviation enthusiasts and pilots.
