EDITORS COMMENTS
Step back in time with this enchanting image of an old wooden shop nestled at the corner of Charles Street and Waverton Street in the heart of Mayfair, London. This charming building, now adorned with antique shops below and residential quarters above, was originally built in 1754 by John Phillips, a skilled master carpenter. John took a lease of part of Hay Hill Farm and constructed this quaint workshop as part of his endeavors. The surrounding property was also largely built by his hands, making this corner a significant piece of eighteenth-century heritage in the area. As you gaze upon this photograph, taken in 1938, you can almost hear the sounds of hammers and saws ringing out from the workshop. The clapperboard walls, a common architectural feature of the time, have weathered beautifully, adding to the olde worlde charm of the scene. This picture offers a glimpse into London's rich history, showcasing the enduring character of the city's buildings and the craftsmanship that has shaped its landscape for centuries. The shop's location in the fashionable Mayfair district further highlights the area's diverse past, blending history with modernity.
