EDITORS COMMENTS
Step into the world of No, No Nanette, a delightful and farcical tale of love, misunderstandings, and blackmail, as depicted in this promotional postcard by Frank Mandel. First produced in England in 1925 at the Palace Theatre, the show made its way to the Globe Theatre in New York on September 16th of the same year. The young Manhattan heiress, Nanette, played by a radiant and naughty actress, is seen here in an embrace with her lover, as they share a moment of blissful happiness, oblivious to the chaos that surrounds them. The scene is set at a cottage in Atlantic City, where three couples find themselves entangled in a web of deceit and mischief. Nanette, tired of her unhappy engagement, runs off for a weekend of fun and freedom, leaving her fiancé and his mistress behind. The ensuing confusion leads to a series of hilarious misunderstandings, all while a nefarious blackmailer lurks in the shadows. This postcard, featuring the iconic image of the embracing couples, was given away two weeks before the show opened at the Theatre Mogador in Paris. No, No Nanette quickly became a sensation, with its catchy tunes, including the ever-popular "Tea for Two" and "I Want to Be Happy," captivating audiences around the world.
