Actors Mr Beerbohm Tree and Miss Maud Jeffries dressed in costume for Herod; A Tragedy, written by Stephen Phillips (1884), at her majesty's theatre. Mr Beerbohm Tree (December 1852- July 1917) was an English actor and theatre manager. Tree began performing in the 1870, in this play he is playing Kind Herod. Miss Maud Jefferies (December 1869-September 1946) was an American actress. A popular subject for a wide range of theatrical post-cards and studio photographs, in this play she is acting as Mariamne.
