EDITORS COMMENTS
1. Title: A Vintage Vampire: De Havilland DH.115 T.55 ZH563 at the Royal International Air Tattoo, Boscombe Down, 13th June 1992 2. Caption: This photograph showcases the De Havilland DH.115 Vampire T.55, registration ZH563, gracing the skies above Boscombe Down during the Royal International Air Tattoo on the 13th of June 1992. This iconic aircraft, which was once part of the RAF's fleet under the designations U-1216, G-BVLM, and 209, is a testament to the rich history of British aviation. The De Havilland Vampire, a single-engine, two-seat, jet-powered trainer and fighter, was first introduced in 1945 and served as the RAF's primary jet trainer until the 1960s. ZH563, specifically, was manufactured in 1953 and was later used by the RAF Benevolent Fund for various promotional activities. After its RAF service, it was sold to private owners and eventually registered as G-BVLM before joining the Historic Aircraft Collection at Boscombe Down. This photograph encapsulates the essence of aviation history, as the Vampire T.55 soars above the picturesque English countryside, leaving a trail of nostalgia and wonder in its wake. The event at Boscombe Down, one of the world's most prestigious air shows, provided the perfect backdrop for this vintage aircraft to showcase its timeless charm and significance in the annals of aviation history.
