Rosalind Russell?s housecoat advert - First Love Silverware

Rosalind Russell?s housecoat for an advertisement for First Love silverware (1937). The housecoat ? stylistically matched Dolly Tree?s wardrobe for Myrna Loy and Rosalind Russell in Manproof released January 1938 and in production at MGM in September and October 1937. In fact, the outfit bears a striking resemblance to Myrna Loy?s black Lyons velvet housecoat and as a result it is highly likely that this a Dolly Tree creation. Date: 1937

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph, Rosalind Russell poses gracefully in a housecoat, exuding an air of sophistication and glamour. The image, which dates back to 1937, was taken during the production of the film "Manproof" at MGM Studios. The housecoat, stylistically reminiscent of Dolly Tree's designs, bears a striking resemblance to Myrna Loy's black Lyons velvet housecoat from the same era. The 1930s was an era of jazz age glamour in Hollywood, and this housecoat is a testament to the exquisite costume design that defined the period. Rosalind Russell's outfit, with its elegant lines and luxurious fabric, would have been right at home in the opulent world of MGM Studios. The housecoat was likely created by Dolly Tree, who was responsible for designing many of the costumes for both Rosalind Russell and Myrna Loy during this time. The similarity between the two housecoats suggests that this was a deliberate choice, with Dolly Tree drawing inspiration from her previous designs to create a cohesive look for the two actresses. The photograph offers a glimpse into the world of Hollywood glamour and the meticulous attention to detail that went into creating the costumes for the films of the 1930s. With its timeless elegance and enduring style, this housecoat remains a fascinating piece of movie history.
