EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative portrait captures the six presidents of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also known as the Mormon Church, from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The image, dating from around 1910, features the presidents in a clockwise order, starting from the top left with Joseph Smith, the church's founder, followed by Brigham Young, John Taylor, Joseph F. Smith, Lorenzo Snow, and Wilford Woodruff in the center. Joseph Smith (1805-1844), a visionary religious leader, established the Latter-day Saint movement in upstate New York in the 1820s. Brigham Young (1801-1877), Smith's successor, led the Latter-day Saints westward to Utah in 1847, where they established the Mormon stronghold. John Taylor (1808-1887) served as the third president of the church after Young's death. Joseph F. Smith (1838-1918) was the sixth president of the church and played a significant role in the church's modernization and expansion. Lorenzo Snow (1814-1901) was the fifth president, and the first to be born in the Mormon settlement in Illinois. Wilford Woodruff (1807-1898) was the fourth president, known for his efforts to bring the church into the modern world and establish a more formal relationship with other Christian denominations. This powerful image of these six influential religious leaders serves as a reminder of the rich history and enduring legacy of the Latter-day Saint movement. Their unwavering faith and commitment to their beliefs continue to inspire millions of Mormons around the world today.
