EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisite handfinished chromolithograph showcases a vibrant and captivating array of Pink, or Dianthus, varieties. The illustration, derived from an original work by Jane Loudon, was meticulously brought to life by Henry Noel Humphreys in 1849 for Mrs. Jane Loudon's Ladies Flower Garden of Ornamental Perennials. Beginning at the top left, we find the Shrubby Chinese Pink (Dianthus arbusculus), its petals unfurling in a soft, rosy blush. Next to it, the Caucasian Pink (Dianthus caucasicus) boasts velvety, deep-pink blooms with a distinctive sweet fragrance. The Wood Pink (Dianthus virgineus) graces the middle with its delicate, white and pink blossoms nestled among lush, green foliage. Moving to the right, the Alpine Pink (Dianthus alpinus) displays its charming, pink and white flowers against a backdrop of rocky terrain. The Mount Lebanon Pink (Dianthus lebanotia) adds a touch of elegance with its elegant, pink and white blooms. The Sand Pink (Dianthus arenarius) thrives in sandy conditions, showcasing its small, pink flowers. Lastly, the Pubescent Pink (Dianthus pubescens) steals the show with its abundant, pink and white blooms, their edges delicately fringed with soft hairs. The Shrubby Chinese Pink, Caucasian Pink, Wood Pink, Alpine Pink, Mount Lebanon Pink, Sand Pink, and Pubescent Pink are just a few of the many captivating Dianthus varieties that continue to enchant gardeners and flower enthusiasts alike. This stunning, historical print offers a glimpse into the rich tapestry of horticultural discoveries and artistic achievements of the past, inviting us to appreciate the timeless beauty of these enchanting flowers.
