Step back in time with this photograph of the Star of the East Public House in Hackney, London. Dating back to the 1940s, this image offers a glimpse into the past of this historic pub, which once stood proudly on the streets of East London. The Star of the East, located at 11 Hoare Street, Hackney, E2 8QR, was a beloved local establishment that has since closed its doors. The photograph, taken in the 1940s, shows the pub's facade in all its glory. With its ornate brickwork and distinctive signage, the Star of the East was a true gem of the community. The back of the print reveals that the pub was once a part of the Hoare and Company Limited, but the image itself does not show any commercial signage or branding. Instead, it invites us to imagine the lively conversations and laughter that once filled the pub's cozy interior. Sadly, as of July 2018, the Star of the East Public House had closed and was no longer in use.
