EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the facade of the Simla Public House, located in Thornton Heath, Greater London (CR7 8LW) during its tenure as a beloved local watering hole. The image, taken by an unknown photographer, presents a classic view of the pub's exterior, with its distinctive signage and brickwork. The Simla, which was once a popular destination for both residents and visitors of Thornton Heath, was owned and operated by Hoare & Company Limited, as indicated on the back of the print. The trading records detail that the pub was in operation as early as 1934 and continued to serve its community until at least 1961. Unfortunately, the Simla, like many historic pubs, has since been demolished. It was replaced by modern flats in 2011, marking the end of an era for this cherished local establishment. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the Simla's rich history and the memories it holds for generations of patrons. The Simla Public House, with its warm and welcoming atmosphere, was more than just a building – it was a community hub, a place where friends gathered, stories were shared, and new connections were made. This image offers a glimpse into the past, inviting us to remember the Simla and the role it played in the lives of those who frequented it.
