EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the historic Red Lion Public House in Pimlico, London, as it stood before its tragic destruction during World War II. The image, taken from the corner, showcases the charming old building with its distinctive red sign and ornate detailing. The Red Lion, established by the Hoare and Company Limited, was a beloved local institution with a rich history that dates back to at least 1934, as evidenced by the trading record detailed on the reverse of this print. However, on April 16, 1941, the pub was sadly destroyed by enemy action. Despite the loss, the Red Lion was rebuilt, preserving a piece of Pimlico's history for future generations. This photograph offers a glimpse into the past, inviting us to imagine the lively conversations and camaraderie that once filled this cherished watering hole.
