Old Newington Church
Sir William Patten, Lord of the Manor, built the present Old Church, bordering Clissold Park on the north side of Church Street, in 1563. It is the only church of the Elizabethan period left in London and one of only a few in the entire country. It is also one of the very earliest Anglican Churches which has never been a Roman Catholic Church. Date: 1875

Old Newington Church, built by Sir William Patten, Lord of the Manor, in 1563, is a historic Anglican place of worship located on the north side of Church Street, bordering Clissold Park in London. This photograph, taken in 1875, captures the old, gothic-style church as it stood over 300 years after its construction. Sir William Patten, a wealthy merchant and courtier, was instrumental in the building of this church, which is the only surviving Elizabethan-era church in London and one of the few in the entire country. The Old Church of Newington is not only a significant historical landmark but also a testament to the rich architectural heritage of England. Dating back to the late 16th century, it is one of the earliest Anglican churches that has never been a Roman Catholic Church. The church's intricate stonework, pointed arches, and tall spire are a sight to behold, making it a popular destination for history enthusiasts, architects, and visitors to the area.
