The obelisk, erected by Senusret I of Dynasty XII around 1870 BCE, still stands proudly in its original position within Al-Masalla, a suburb of Al-Matariyyah in Cairo. The obelisk, made of red granite, is adorned with intricate hieroglyphics and carvings depicting the god Ra-Atum, the creator deity of the Heliopolitan Ennead.
