This evocative image captures the moment of reckoning for Jan Hus, the influential Czech religious reformer, during his heresy trial in 1414. Born in 1372, Hus emerged as a leading figure in the Hussite movement, advocating for the reform of the Catholic Church and the translation of the Bible into the Czech language. His teachings, which challenged the authority of the Church and promoted a more direct connection between the laity and God, gained widespread support among the people. However, these ideas were considered heretical by the Church, and in 1411, Hus was summoned to appear before the Council of Constance to answer for his beliefs.
