Bessin for Leon Rolland's "Guide to Mushrooms from France, Switzerland, and Belgium," showcases two intriguing and visually distinct fungi: the Goblet Funnel Cap (Pseudoclitocybe cyathiformis, formerly known as Clitocybe cyathiformis) and the Waxy Laccaria, or Deceiver (Laccaria laccata). The Goblet Funnel Cap, with its distinctive bell-shaped cap and long, slender stem, is a common find in wooded areas of Europe. Its cap's surface is smooth and glossy, often appearing almost translucent when wet. The Waxy Laccaria, on the other hand, is a deceptive mushroom, earning its common name due to its ability to mimic the appearance of other edible mushrooms, such as the Chanterelle or the Bay Bolete. Its cap is waxy to the touch and can range in color from yellowish-brown to reddish-brown. The Deceiver's stem is short and stout, and its gills are closely spaced and white.
