Westwood's new edition of Dru Drury's Illustrations of Exotic Entomology, published by Bohn in London in 1837, showcases an intriguing assemblage of exotic insects. The image features four distinct species, each displaying unique characteristics that reflect the wonders of the natural world. In the foreground, the Eneoptera surinamensis cricket (1) is depicted with its long, slender legs and distinctive elongated antennae. The cricket belongs to the family Eneopteridae, which is native to South America. The two insects in the middle ground are bedbug species. The first one, Cimex corticatus (2), is commonly known as the tropical bedbug. It has a flat, oval body and is adapted for living in cracks and crevices in the walls and furniture of human dwellings.
