The Dream Pedlar - Stepped out of a Pantomime
Just as though she had stepped out of a Pantomime - illustration in The Dream Pedlar by Lady Margaret Sackville. Florence Mary Anderson / Molly MacArthur (1893-1972) had two distinct styles of illustration. From the middle of the 1920s, she moved on from earlier highly-decorative fairy art (as shown here) to produce beautiful monotone woodcuts in a distinctly oriental style. This artwork (as seen here) was produced under the name Molly MacArthur, or F.M. MacArthur. Date: 1914

The Dream Pedlar - Stepped Out of a Pantomime
EDITORS COMMENTS
is an enchanting illustration taken from Lady Margaret Sackville's book, "The Dream Pedlar," created by the talented artist Florence Mary Anderson, working under the name Molly MacArthur. This artwork dates back to 1914, showcasing the artist's earlier, highly-decorative fairy art style. In this exquisite piece, a lady, dressed in elegant attire, steps out of a fantastical pantomime scene. The dreamlike atmosphere is accentuated by the swirling, intricate patterns and vibrant colors that surround her. The pantomime backdrop is filled with whimsical characters, each one more fantastical than the last, as if they have been plucked straight from a child's imagination. At the time this illustration was created, Molly MacArthur was known for her highly-decorative fairy art, which was popular during the early 1900s. However, by the middle of the 1920s, she would transition to a new style, producing beautiful monotone woodcuts with a distinctly oriental flavor. This illustration, with its rich details and vivid colors, invites the viewer to step into a world of dreams and imagination. It is a testament to the artistic skill and creativity of Lady Margaret Sackville and Florence Mary Anderson, who, under the name Molly MacArthur, brought this magical world to life.
