Napoleon Bonaparte, the military genius who rose to prominence during the French Revolution, stands confidently in the Tuileries Palace Gardens on November 17, 1799. Flanked by his fellow Consuls, Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Sieyes and Paul Barras's representative, General Jean-Lambert-Nicolas Crouzat Ducos, Napoleon assumes control of the Tuileries Palace, marking the beginning of the Consulate - a new form of government in France. The Consulate was established following the successful coup d'état known as the Brumaire Coup, which overthrew the Directory, the weak and chaotic government that had followed the Revolutionary Convention. Napoleon, who had led the coup, was appointed as First Consul, granting him significant power to stabilize the country and restore order.
