Edouard Adolphe Casimir Joseph Mortier (1768-1835), a prominent French politician and general during the Napoleonic era, is depicted in this striking portrait painted by Lariviña. Mortier, who was born in Saint-Domingue, served in various campaigns under Napoleon Bonaparte, including the Italian and Egyptian expeditions. He rose through the military ranks, earning the title of Marshal of France in 1804.
