LFCDA-LFB Thermal image camera (TIC) in use
A thermal image camera was deployed at this major building collapse in SW London to help in the search for survivors trapped in the debris. The camera gives a thermal image and can detect the areas or outline of heat sources against a cooler background. It could therefore detect the heat from a persons body. It could not however penetrate through the debris and detect people hidden from view by brickwork or other impermeable structures

EDITORS COMMENTS
In the heart of SW London, the aftermath of a major building collapse unfolds as London Fire Brigade (LFB) members work tirelessly to locate survivors trapped in the debris. Amidst the chaos and destruction, a LFB Thermal Image Camera (TIC) is deployed, its yellow waterproof casing standing out against the ruins. This advanced piece of equipment, produced by LFCDA, is essential in the search for those potentially hidden from view. The TIC emits no light, instead, it detects heat signatures, providing a thermal image that outlines areas of heat against a cooler background. Capable of detecting the heat from a human body, it offers hope in locating those who may be trapped and in need of rescue. However, it cannot penetrate through debris or detect people hidden from view by brickwork or other impermeable structures. Firefighters, wearing their yellow waterproof helmets and other protective gear, carefully maneuver the TIC through the scene, scanning the area for any signs of life. The 1980s, with its iconic yellow helmets and advanced thermal imaging technology, marks a significant era in firefighting and rescue operations. The TIC plays a crucial role in the search for survivors, providing valuable information to the rescue team and guiding them to the areas where they are most needed. As the sun sets on the scene, the LFB team continues their efforts, their determination unwavering. The TIC, an essential tool in their arsenal, helps them navigate the complex and dangerous terrain, bringing hope to those in need and making a difference in the face of adversity.
