EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the image of a courageous and determined lion holding a shield, proudly displaying an intricately engraved emblem. The shield, a cherished memento, was presented to Dr. Charles Herbert Gunson on March 7, 1916, by the dedicated staff of the Wisbech Red Cross Hospital. Dr. Gunson, a distinguished Medical Officer, served valiantly during World War I. His exceptional service was recognized and honored with several Gazette announcements. On July 17, 1917, he was appointed as a Temporary 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Army Medical Corps, and later, on June 27, 1918, he was promoted to Temporary Captain. Dr. Gunson's address was Crescent House, Wisbech, Cambs. The commemorative ware, adorned with the lion holding the shield, serves as a poignant reminder of the bravery and resilience of those who served during WWI. This photograph is a testament to the unwavering spirit of the medical staff and the community that supported the brave men and women who put their lives on the line for their country.
