In this historic photograph, we see the London Fire Brigade's AFS (Auxiliary Fire Service) Bikini raft fully inflated and ready for action on the shores of the River Thames. The AFS, also known as the "Temporary Firemen," were civilian volunteers who served alongside the professional firefighters during World War II when the regular fire service was stretched thin. The LFB-AFS Bikini raft was a lightweight, portable appliance designed for use in water rescues and firefighting operations.
