EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph, Lady Patricia Ramsay (nee Princess Patricia of Connaught) is seen with her young son, Master Alexander Ramsay, around 1927. Lady Patricia, born in 1886, made headlines when she chose to marry one of her father's Aides-de-Camp, the Hon. Alexander Ramsay. The Duke of Connaught, her father, eventually agreed to the union, making it the first Royal wedding to be celebrated in Westminster Abbey since the thirteenth century. Despite giving up her royal titles upon marriage, Lady Patricia remained a cherished member of the royal family, gracing State and family occasions with her presence. The elegant Lady Patricia was known for her artistic talents, and this image showcases her tender moment with her beloved son, Alexander, born in 1919. The historical significance of this wedding was immense, as it broke the tradition of royal brides marrying within the aristocracy or European royalty. The couple's union was celebrated in 1927 and marked an important chapter in the history of the British monarchy. Lady Patricia's life was filled with intrigue and tradition. She was a gifted artist who continued to paint throughout her life, leaving behind a rich artistic legacy. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of a bygone era and the enduring bond between a mother and her child. In this image, Lady Patricia, then in her late forties, looks lovingly at her 8-year-old son, Alexander, as they share a quiet moment. The black-and-white photograph, taken in the early 20th century, transports us back in time, offering a glimpse into the lives of a remarkable royal family.
