Illustration by Cecil Aldin, Jim, a bobtail sheepdog

Illustration by Cecil Aldin -- Jim, a bobtail sheepdog, owned by the actress Fabia Drake. The dog was a perfect actor, taking part in a childrens play called The Happy Family, produced at the Prince of Wales and Strand Theatres on two consecutive Christmas holidays, based on a story by Aldin himself. For six weeks each year, Jim waited in the wings for his entrance cue, barked at the right moment when on stage, and made his exit at the correct time, never seeming to tire of the monotony of the nightly performances. Noel Coward, Mimi Crawford and Fabia Drake were also taking part. Date: 1927.
