However, his career took an unexpected turn when he married Oliver Cromwell's daughter, Bridget, in 1646. This union brought Ireton into the inner circle of the powerful Cromwell family. Oliver Cromwell, a military and political leader, played a crucial role in the English Civil Wars, leading the New Model Army to victory against the Royalists. After the execution of King Charles I in 1649, Cromwell became Lord Protector of England, Scotland, and Ireland.
