A jolly group, with arms linked on the beach at Scarborough, in the month before the declaration of World War One. Fifth from left is Harry Lawrence Oakley, the famous silhouette artist. Harry Lawrence Oakley (1882-1960), whose silhouettes were in demand for posters, magazines illustrations and advertising, also cut thousands of portraits during his lifetime. He set up studios around the country, at seaside resorts and in department stores, including Scarborough. Oakley spent much of the war as an ADC and was afterwards known as Captain Oakley. Date: 1914
