In 1755, he was appointed as the commander of HMS Norfolk and was later promoted to Rear-Admiral in 1756. During the War of Jenkins' Ear, Pocock played a pivotal role in the Battle of Portobelo in 1739. He led a successful assault on the fortified town, securing a significant victory for the British. In the Seven Years' War, he commanded the Blue Squadron and played a crucial role in the Battle of Quiberon Bay in 1759.
