EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures the jubilant Bradford City football team, proudly holding aloft the coveted FA Cup after their historic victory in 1911. The team, dressed in their blue and white striped shirts, are shown standing in a triumphant huddle, surrounded by a sea of supporters and officials. Bradford City's journey to FA Cup glory began in November 1910, with a 1-0 win against Barnsley in the first round. They went on to defeat Sheffield United, Stoke City, and Aston Villa in the following rounds, before drawing 0-0 with Newcastle United in the final at Crystal Palace on April 22, 1911. The replay took place just five days later, and Bradford City secured their place in football history with a 1-0 victory, thanks to a goal from full-back Billy Jarvis. This photograph is believed to have been taken around the 1930s, and was likely included in an Association Football (FA) Cup Winners Players Cigarettes card set. The set, which featured individual cards of each player from the winning team, was a popular collectible item during the interwar period. The 1911 FA Cup triumph was a significant moment in the history of Bradford City, and marked the first time that a team from the Second Division had won the competition. The team's success also came at a time when football was rapidly gaining popularity in Britain, and the FA Cup final was one of the most highly anticipated events of the year. This photograph serves as a reminder of the passion, excitement, and history that surrounds the beautiful game of football.
