Swindons exploits at this time owed a lot to the skilful forward Harold John Fleming (1887-1955) who was capped by England 11 times between 1909 and 1914 despite playing outside the Football League. Fleming remained with Swindon throughout a playing career spanning 1907 and 1924 and went on to live in the town for his entire life (see: 10075557). Another player featured is the wonderfully-named Herbert Ernest Saxon Bertie Cordey Lyon (1877-?) !! Date: circa 1907

Born in Swindon in 1887, Fleming spent his entire football career with the team, from 1907 until 1924. His talent was recognized beyond the local league, as he earned eleven caps for the English national team between 1909 and 1914. Fleming's teammate in this image is the colorfully named Herbert Ernest Saxon Bertie Cordey Lyon, who also contributed significantly to Swindon Town's success during this era. Despite playing outside the Football League, these players and their teammates made a name for themselves on the pitch, leaving a lasting legacy in Swindon's football history.
