1. This set of documents tells the story of bravery and recognition during the aftermath of the First World War. At the center is a copy of Army Orders from General Sir Henry Charles Monro Rawlinson, Commanding Officer of the 4th Army, dated 1st March 1919. The orders list the immediate rewards, including the Military Medal, granted to an impressive number of 40 recipients. The Military Medal is a decoration awarded to soldiers and officers of the British and Commonwealth armies for acts of gallantry and devotion to duty in the presence of the enemy. 2. Among the recipients was 23998 Private J. Herron of the Manchester Regiment, whose certificate of gallantry and devotion to duty is also included in this collection.
