Born in 1632, Flechier rose to prominence during a period of significant political and religious turmoil in France. Flechier's ecclesiastical career began in 1657 when he was ordained a priest. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented preacher and scholar, and in 1668, he was appointed as the Abbot of Sylvanes. In 1686, Flechier was elevated to the position of Bishop of Nimes, a role he held until his death. However, Flechier's influence extended far beyond the confines of the Church. He was a skilled diplomat and statesman who played a crucial role in French politics during the late 17th century. Flechier was a trusted advisor to King Louis XIV and served as the royal commissioner in Avignon from 1685 to 1688.
