EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph, Empress Augusta Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein and her daughter Princess Victoria Louise of Prussia are seen taking a leisurely constitutional walk in the heart of Berlin's Tiergarten urban park, in 1910. The Empress, dressed in an elegant long coat and hat, holds a muff in her hand to keep warm against the chill of the autumn air. Her young daughter, Princess Victoria Louise, follows closely behind, wearing a matching coat and hat, and carrying a small basket. Augusta Victoria, the last German Empress and Queen of Prussia, was the first wife of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Born in 1858 in Schleswig-Holstein, she was a Danish princess by birth but became German through her marriage to Kaiser Wilhelm II in 1884. Augusta Victoria was known for her strong-willed character and her commitment to her role as Empress and Queen consort. Princess Victoria Louise, born in 1892, was the eldest child of Augusta Victoria and Kaiser Wilhelm II. She would later marry Prince Ernest Augustus of Hanover and become the mother of the current British monarch, Elizabeth II. The close bond between mother and daughter is evident in this photograph, as they stroll through the picturesque Tiergarten, enjoying a moment of tranquility amidst the bustling city of Berlin. The Tiergarten, Berlin's largest urban park, was a popular destination for the city's residents and royalty alike. The park's scenic beauty, with its lakes, gardens, and tree-lined paths, provided a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of urban life. In this photograph, Empress Augusta Victoria and Princess Victoria Louise are seen taking full advantage of the park's serene atmosphere, as they enjoy a peaceful walk together, surrounded by nature.
