According to popular legend, he requested that a servant bring him meat tucked between two slices of bread so he could continue playing cards without interruption. This convenient and delicious creation, which came to be known as the sandwich, revolutionized the way people enjoyed their food. Despite the culinary innovation, Edward Montagu's primary accomplishments lie in his political and military career. He served as Lord Chamberlain, Lord Privy Seal, and Lord President of the Council under Charles II. Montagu also held the position of Lord High Admiral, where he played a crucial role in the Second Anglo-Dutch War. Additionally, he served as the English ambassador to France during the reign of Louis XIV.
