EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases a precious collection of early aviation artefacts, each carrying the weight of history and the spirit of human innovation. At the heart of this assemblage are two significant pieces of aviation history: fragments of wood from Louis Bleriot's monoplane, which made the first successful crossing of the English Channel in 1909, and a piece of metal from Alcock and Brown's Vickers Vimy, which completed the first non-stop transatlantic flight from Newfoundland to Ireland in 1919. The postcard in the foreground adds an intriguing layer to the display, bearing the signatures of these pioneering aviators, Alcock and Brown, on its reverse. This photograph is a testament to the heroic achievements of the early 20th century, when the impossible became possible through the relentless pursuit of technological advancement and human courage. These artefacts stand as symbols of a century marked by groundbreaking inventions and the expansion of human horizons, as we took to the skies and conquered the ocean.
