Chickens Dishes Eats Greedy Intended Misbehaving Stealing Towser

EDITORS COMMENTS
Towser: The Red, Greedy Dog of Scottish Folklore This charming yet mischievous image captures the moment when Towser, the legendary Scottish Terrier, indulges in a feast that is not his own. With a red-hued coat and a gleam of greed in his eyes, Towser eagerly devours food intended for the cat and the chickens, as well as his own dish. Towser, a beloved figure in Scottish folklore, was said to have lived in the late 18th or early 19th century on the Isle of Bute, off the west coast of Scotland. The story goes that Towser was the faithful companion of a farmer named John MacLean. Despite having his own ample food supply, Towser developed a notorious habit of sneaking bites from the dishes of the farm's cat and chickens. MacLean, who had grown tired of replacing the stolen food, decided to put an end to Towser's thievery. He set a trap, hiding a large piece of meat in a shallow pit covered with straw. When Towser went to steal the cat's food, he fell into the pit and was unable to escape. MacLean, amused by the situation, decided to let Towser stay there as a warning to other animals. However, the story takes a surprising turn when it is revealed that Towser's actions were not out of mere greed, but rather a deep concern for the well-being of his companions. Towser believed that the cat and the chickens were not getting enough to eat and felt it was his duty to ensure they were well-fed. This historical photograph, with its warm tones and playful composition, captures the essence of Towser's endearing and misbehaving nature, making it a delightful addition to any collection of Scottish folklore or animal-themed imagery.
