EDITORS COMMENTS
Andrew of Greece and Denmark, born in 1882, was the seventh child and fourth son of King George I of Greece and Olga Constantinovna of Russia. Raised in the royal courts of Greece and Russia, Prince Andrew was a member of the prestigious House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg. In this charming photograph taken circa 1903, the young prince is captured in a playful moment with his beloved pet dog. The image, which exudes a sense of warmth and innocence, showcases Prince Andrew's affinity for animals. The prince is dressed in the traditional uniform of the Greek Navy, complete with a cap adorned with the Greek flag. His Danish heritage is also represented by the Dannebrog, the Danish flag, which can be seen draped over the back of the chair. Prince Andrew went on to marry Princess Alice of Battenberg in 1903, and together they had four daughters and one son. Their eldest son, Prince Philip, would later become the Duke of Edinburgh and the consort of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. This photograph offers a glimpse into the early life of a prince who would later play a significant role in the royal families of both Greece and the United Kingdom. With his beloved pet by his side, Prince Andrew embodies the carefree spirit of childhood and the rich history of his royal lineage.
