Adelaide Russell, nee Lister (1807-1838), was the first wife of the esteemed British statesman, Lord John Russell. Born into a prominent family, Adelaide was the eldest daughter of the 1st Earl of Lister and Lady Elizabeth Milbanke. Her marriage to Lord John Russell, who would later serve as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1846 to 1852, took place in 1826. This portrait of Adelaide Russell, taken around the time of her marriage, showcases her striking beauty and elegance.
