EDITORS COMMENTS
In this elegant and captivating photograph, Princess Marie Amalie of Baden, also known as Princess of Leiningen, is depicted in a stunning velvet dress and crinoline, exuding the grace and sophistication of late 19th century European royalty. Marie Amalie was born on January 24, 1841, in Karlsruhe, Baden, as the eldest daughter of Leopold, Grand Duke of Baden. She was raised in the grandeur and opulence of the Baden court, receiving an education befitting her future role as a princess. On October 25, 1858, Marie Amalie married Prince Ernst Leopold of Leiningen in a lavish ceremony held in Karlsruhe. Ernst Leopold was a member of the Leiningen-Westerburg-Neuleiningen branch of the House of Leiningen. The union between Marie Amalie and Ernst Leopold strengthened the ties between the two noble families and solidified their positions within the European aristocracy. This photograph, taken in 1899, captures Marie Amalie in her prime. Her velvet dress, with its rich texture and deep color, complements her dark hair and fair complexion. The crinoline beneath her dress adds volume and fullness to her silhouette, emphasizing her feminine figure. The princess's serene expression and poised posture convey a sense of confidence and refinement, reflecting her status as a member of the European royalty. Marie Amalie and Ernst Leopold had five children together: Leopold, Ernst, Marie Elisabeth, Amalie, and Alexander. Marie Amalie passed away on March 13, 1923, at the age of 82, leaving behind a legacy as a devoted wife, loving mother, and esteemed member of the European aristocracy. This photograph stands as a testament to her beauty, grace, and the rich history of the Baden and Leiningen families.
