This stunning sepia print captures the regal elegance of Margherita of Savoy, Queen of Umberto I of Italy, taken in the year 1851. Margherita, born in 1851 as Princess Margherita of Savoy-Carignano, was the eldest daughter of King Vittorio Emanuele II of Italy and his second wife, Queen Margherita of Savoy. In 1868, she married her first cousin, Umberto I, who would later become King of Italy in 1878. Margherita's elegant attire in this photograph reflects the opulence and grandeur of the Italian royalty during the late 19th century. She wears a lacy collar, a popular fashion accessory of the time, adorned with intricate embroidery and pearls. Her hair is styled in two plaits, a classic hairstyle for royal women of the era. The star and collar insignia on her chest indicate her status as a member of the House of Savoy and her role as Queen consort of Italy.
