In 1909, he suppressed a religious uprising led by the Balkan Exarchate in Adana, known as the Adana Massacre. The violent clashes between Muslim and Christian communities resulted in the deaths of thousands of people and caused widespread unrest. Following the suppression of the uprising, Mahmut Sevket Pasa played a significant role in the subsequent deposition of Sultan Abdulhamid II.
