Born in Hansdorf, Saxony around 1463, Margareta was the daughter of Hans and Margarethe Biegler. She married Hans Luder, a miner and later a small-time farmer, in 1485, and together they had six children, including Martin, who would go on to challenge the Catholic Church and spark the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century. Margareta's life was marked by hardship and loss. Her husband died when Martin was just six years old, leaving her to raise their children on her own. Despite these challenges, she provided her children with a strong foundation in education and faith. Martin, in particular, was deeply influenced by his mother's piety and her insistence on the importance of a good education.
