Born on November 10, 1483, in Eisleben, Germany, Luther began his religious journey as a monk in the Augustinian order. However, it was his translation of the Bible into the vernacular German, which he began in 1521, that would ignite a religious and political revolution. In this print, Luther is depicted in the act of writing, his quill poised above the parchment, as he labored over his magnum opus, the "95 Theses." These theses, which he nailed to the door of Castle Church in Wittenberg on October 31, 1517, challenged the Catholic Church's sale of indulgences and sparked a theological debate that would ultimately lead to the schism within Christendom.
