This striking carte-de-visite (CDV) photograph captures Lorenzo Dow Young, a prominent Mormon leader and brother of Brigham Young, during a visit to England in June 1866. The image, taken at the studio of an unidentified photographer, provides a rare glimpse into the life of a key figure in the Latter-day Saint movement during a pivotal moment in its history. Born in Vermont in 1818, Lorenzo Dow Young joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1832. He became an assistant to the prophet Joseph Smith and later served as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles under Brigham Young. In 1840, Young was sent as a missionary to England, where he spent the next 15 years. His return to Utah Territory in 1855 marked the beginning of a new phase in his career as a church leader.
