Chenonceaux Leonardo Luce Places Vinci Clos

EDITORS COMMENTS
Leonardo da Vinci's French Home: Le Clos Luce near Chenonceaux Leonardo da Vinci, the renowned Italian polymath, spent the final three years of his life in the beautiful Château du Clos Luce, located near the picturesque town of Chenonceaux in the Loire Valley, France. This exquisite residence, now a historic site, offers a glimpse into the life of the great artist and inventor during his time in France. Built in the 15th century, Le Clos Luce was originally a fortified manor house. In 1516, King Francis I of France granted the property to Leonardo, who was then in the service of the king. The artist is believed to have used the château as both his home and workshop. The tranquil setting of Le Clos Luce, with its gardens and vineyards, provided Leonardo with an ideal environment to continue his work. He is said to have completed some of his most famous pieces during his stay, including the Mona Lisa and the Saint John the Baptist. Leonardo's time in France was marked by patronage from the French monarchy, who recognized the value of his artistic and intellectual talents. The king even arranged for Leonardo to be buried in the Chapel of Saint-Hubert in the Royal Château of Amboise, just a short distance from Le Clos Luce, upon his death in 1519. Today, Le Clos Luce stands as a testament to Leonardo's time in France and his enduring legacy as an artist, scientist, and inventor. Visitors can explore the château and its gardens, gaining insight into the life of this remarkable man and the world that inspired him.
