Built in the 15th century, Le Clos Luce was originally a fortified manor house. In 1516, King Francis I of France granted the property to Leonardo, who was then in the service of the king. The king even arranged for Leonardo to be buried in the Chapel of Saint-Hubert in the Royal Château of Amboise, just a short distance from Le Clos Luce, upon his death in 1519.
